The Benefits of Not Being Spiritually Woke 🕉

While collecting gemstones and being a free spirit may be trendy today, most people are better off being traditional rather than spiritual. Most people are not ready to truly experience and understand the depths of our society. The truth is that being spiritual often leads people down a path of insecurity and awareness, which is basically a form of torture. The problem is that spirituality and traditional society are not compatible. Most people are better off not becoming spiritual until they are much older and already established in life.

How is one spiritual?

Spiritual people are more aware of what’s going on around us. While most people lack interest in the unknown, others are more gravitated towards it. I’ve also noticed that spiritual people have exaggerated expression of the chakras. Especially the upper three chakras, which are the throat, third eye and crown chakras. Creative expression is often overly emphasized, along with intuition and higher consciousness.

The hierarchy of needs

Among psychological theorists, Abraham Maslow coined the hierarchy of needs to better understand human functioning. First, you have your basic physiological needs, such as shelter, proper food and rest. Next, you have your safety needs, such as your health and financial security. Then you have your righteous needs which deals with your connections, friends, family and sense of belongingness. Next, you have your self esteem needs which deal with your achievements and social status. At the very top of the pyramid is your self actualization and transcendence needs. This deals with spirituality, self-fulfillment and freedom.

Now going back to my point of spirituality being more suitable for older people — this is assuming that time brings on more experience. So most of the needs on the hierarchy are already fulfilled.

Some people are lucky to which they are born into an established life that grants them a pass up the hierarchy. Which means that parental and authority figures supplied the majority of their physiological, psychological and self-esteem needs. But most people don’t have it like that. This is why a lot of spiritual people end up on a destructive life path. Also, transcedence usually involves some destruction to the ego.

Spirituality and the chakras

Spiritual people usually have overactive or under active chakras. This is especially true for the upper three — the throat chakra, the third eye and the crown chakra. The throat chakra is usually over or under activated. Think of a Buddhist monk or a singer. Their self-expression is exaggerated in some way. This can make someone creative, gifted or talented, but it can also serve as a problem.

The third eye is usually more activated compared to most people. There is a natural sense of intuition and all knowing, which can make someone psychic and in tuned with what’s going without even trying. This is what helps creates an additional sense of confidence, along with the solar plexus chakra. Obviously this is helpful for both a creative and mundane lifestyle. But it can also be dangerous if it’s too out of balance, because an overactive third eye can be a gateway for an overactive crown chakra. This can lead to psychological disorders like bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder and narcissism. A healthy crown chakra usually sees important connections that would be relative to those around them.

Understanding the chakras

The lower chakras make us more practical and sensible for everyday life situations. The root chakra gives us a sense of security by branching out connections with family. This can vary from our family that shares our bloodline, but also the family that we share similar values with. Our sacral chakra has to do with our basic pleasures and how we fulfill our desires. The way we gain security in our lives sets the foundation for how to go after our wants and needs. The solar plexus is the provider of our passions. The heart chakra balances our relationships with the outside world. It mostly has to do with feelings of love for ourselves and others. The throat chakras has the do with our self- expression or how we act upon our thoughts. The third eye is our ability to sense the nonphysical and making sense of it. The crown chakra is our spiritual connection to source or a higher power. This is what gives us creative or inventive ideas.

Traditional or mundane people use less of the chakras in general. They depend more on the material world rather than the power of themselves. Materialistic or everyday type of people are less intuitive and they depend more on other people’s ideas and inventions. Materialistic people usually are more financially secure and stable. They don’t have to worry about their ideas failing because they haven’t really created any. Instead they depend on something or someone else to provide that security. If something is not working, it’s easy for them to move towards something similar that is working. So there’s less motivation to explore anything outside of a system that’s already been implemented.

Is it worth being spiritually woke?

Since spiritual people are more aware of the connections in the world, this can be motivating and also self-defeating. For awhile you have to depend on yourself and believe in your ideas and capabilities. Today, our society is attempting to build more stable grounds for spiritual people. There are schools to learn spirituality in both traditional and nontraditional ways. Many school systems are adding meditation to their extracurricular programs. There are many youtubers and social media content creators who teach and share their experiences in hopes to also earn a living. However, the setbacks seems to conflict with the opportunity. Many spiritual networks and content creators are criticized and reported on social media. This leads to content being shadow banned or blocked from content exposure. Hopefully in the future spiritual people will be able to create more secure outlets for themselves and others.
