Today people depend on apps and online dating services like POF, Tinder, ok Cupid, Christian mingle and Grindr to find potential love. According to research conducted, 30% of adults have used an online dating app before. When I did my own research on instagram, 75% of my followers responded yes to online dating before. Many long-term relationships start from online dating services because it seems more appropriate. Dating at work is prohibited and going to the bars and clubs are becoming outdated. With time always being precious, online dating seems to be one of the best ways to find that special someone. These online dating services have special algorithms which promise to match you up with people who are likeminded. Some of the best online dating services are Match, eharmony and okCupid. This is likely because the people on these dating app services are more serious about looking for a partner. Also, being the successful relationship match outcomes, people have higher expectations and believe they will find their partner.

Other dating services like Tinder seem to attract a different audience such as those just looking for hookups or more casual dating, rather than long-term relationships and potential marriage partners. Although online dating has helped in finding many successful relationships, most people have not found online dating apps as particularly helpful when it comes to true love. There are people who are dishonest, and others who have other motives in joining and interacting on these websites and apps. Other issues that arise are the comfortability of an individual being on an online dating website. Many people may feel embarrassed or indecisive about using an online dating service, which prevents success in finding a match. Research has shown that the highest success rates exists amongst the population that has spent money towards online dating services to utilize better matching systems and extra services. Obviously having better matching tools could be helpful, but also those who tend to spend money may take the search for love online a little more seriously than those who chose not to. On the other hand, a lot of people may disagree with spending money to find love because traditionally speaking, love is free. But today, especially being in the pandemic and considering everyone’s busy schedules, spending money to help find your potential soulmate or partner may be necessary.

LGBT More Likely

Online dating is also more prevalent amongst particular social groups, such as the LGBT community. This is because the community is already limited to options due to preferences. Online dating applications and websites are basically doing to same thing, which is narrowing down potential matches based upon likes, interests and personality.

Social Media As An Online Dating Alternative

Although social media initially is intended for creating and exchanging information and networking, it is very likely to find a partner on these platforms. The algorithms are generally more accurate in attracting others who have similar interests. While traditional online dating websites and applications may utilize questionnaires, search filtering and likes to determine potential love matches, there may still be many flaws in these algorithms. People are more likely to exaggerate, lie or make common errors that influence the accuracy of results. Social media is a more natural way to find people who have similar interests because people generally interact with content that they enjoy, unlike some online dating websites. People may be more likely to skip questions or put up a front to attract a particular sort of person on online dating websites. Disregarding the fact that there may be many fake profiles and phony content on social media — it still holds more accurate data about an individual than most online dating apps and websites. The only issue with traditional social media such as instagram and Facebook is that people are not on there to look for love. They are on there for content sharing and networking. Being on social media for other motives can cross other people’s boundaries because other people may be disinterested or already in happy relationships.
