Most people would think that spiritual people would gravitate more towards having an Etsy business, being a yoga instructor, a Reiki practitioner, an artist or some other healing arts. However, those that live a spiritual lifestyle can work almost anywhere, but they may feel like their happiness or beliefs are constantly being challenged. This is why many spiritual people have independent careers, businesses or work under independent contractors. Today, one of the most popular alternative forms of work are working for Door Dash or InstaCart. This is because of the level of freedom available, while there still being a guarantee in making money.

Being spiritual or having a spiritual lifestyle

Those that are more spiritually inclined tend to live a large portion of their lives outside of what others would consider to be practical. They may have a vision or a gift that others cannot see or understand yet. Many of us are into astrology, divination, metaphysics, tarot, numerology, etc. Many others prefer living their daily lives through morals rather than practical reasoning. This can be difficult to maintain while working a traditional job. For example, a person who lives a strong spiritual lifestyle may not prefer to work during a Mercury retrograde. Or maybe a spiritual person who is well educated in astrology sees ahead of time that a particular job will no longer be suitable for them in the next few months. As a result, they decide to quit their job abruptly rather than wait for the destruction to occur. At the time of the abrupt resignation, the fingers being pointed at the spiritual person is deemed negative. Ironically, if that person really does know their astrology, then a few months down the line, the fingers being pointed at the spiritual person is deemed positive because they were actually right. Regardless, being spiritually inclined and working a regular job or career under strict management is more difficult and we should be more appreciative of the alternative work opportunities available for us.

DoorDash and InstaCart

Many spiritual people would feel like working these jobs would be a hindrance to their spiritual path and artistry. But I believe that it’s important to sacrifice a portion of our lives providing a service to others. Both DoorDash and Instacart give workers a particular level of freedom while still being able to work. Also, it allows flexible work schedules that leave enough room to partake in creative endeavors, spiritual practices and other independent work. The only thing you really need is a car, a smart phone and decent judgement skills, in addition to passing a background check.

DoorDash

DoorDash is affiliated with many different restaurants and convenience stores. Workers or dashers can work to deliver food or items ordered from these stores by customers. You can work at any time as long as the restaurants and stores are open. You receive tips from the customers in addition to small payments from the DoorDash company. If the job is taken seriously you can make well over the minimum wage in your state.

Pros

  • Straightforward and easy to learn
  • Ability to work a random schedule or schedule yourself at a future time
  • Start working almost immediately as long as basic requirements are met
  • Make some extra money with promotions or peak times when the schedule is more busy
  • Cash tips are allowed
  • Decline or accept orders
  • Able to make over the minimum wage in your state
  • There is a help chat service provided in the app
  • Get paid the same day or choose weekly payouts

Cons

  • Timing expectations may conflict with restaurants (difficult to pick up an order that isn’t ready)
  • Chat agents are sometimes unhelpful
  • A good portion of your earnings may go towards keeping gas in your car
  • There are usually limitations for faster payout methods

Instacart

Instacart is similar to DoorDash with the exception that it’s a delivery service for supermarkets and sometimes pharmacies. One of the benefits of Instacart is that you don’t necessarily need a car because you can be an in store shopper only. Similar to DoorDash, you need a valid identification and to pass a background check. Scheduling is open and there are always opportunities to take on random orders when they are available. However, Instacart requires more interaction with the customer because items are often not in stock and there are many alternatives that they can choose from. Also similar to doordash, more opportunities open up from successful deliveries. For example, successful deliveries at smaller supermarkets opens up opportunities to provide delivery services to bulk grocery stores like BJs, Sam’s Club and Cotsco.

Pros

  • No car is required
  • There’s an option to work as an in store shopper or both in store and delivery driver
  • Start working almost immediately as long as basic requirements are met
  • If you lose the Instacart payment card then you can only take orders from stores that accept digital payments
  • Decline or accept orders
  • Able to make over the minimum wage in your state
  • You can get paid instantly or weekly through direct deposit

Cons

  • Sometimes supermarket inventory is low
  • Communication with the customer may be necessary throughout the shopping experience
  • Tips are often low for the amount of time it can take to shop and deliver an order
  • There are usually limitations to instant payouts

Both DoorDash and Instacart can be convenient for those with spiritual lifestyles because there’s not really a need to sacrifice your beliefs, nor your lifestyle. Happily play meditation music in the car while you’re delivering orders. Or use headphones with your phone and listen to music while shopping at the supermarket for orders. If you have an online business on Etsy or elsewhere, its easy to ship out orders conveniently with your doordash or instacart schedule. Meditate in your car during slow times or whenever you chose to take a break. Explore new restaurants and supermarkets for yourself that you may wish to order from or shop at in the future. Spiritual people can often lose touch with reality and get lost in personal interests and creative ideas. Working a practical job with considerate amount of freedom can provide the balance that we need.
